20-Yard RORO Skip Hire in Glasgow

The RORO size for heavier construction and demolition waste on Glasgow sites, within its weight limit.

20-Yard RORO Skip in Skip Hire Glasgow

The 20-yard roll-on roll-off container is the smallest common RORO size and the one best suited to heavier waste. It is a practical choice for demolition, groundworks and strip-out projects in Glasgow where a standard skip fills too quickly but a larger container would become overweight.

Skips Glasgow arranges 20-yard RORO hire through licensed local partners across Glasgow and the surrounding areas. Availability is subject to confirmation by the partner serving your site, and the container is weight-limited, so heavy loads must stay within the agreed limit. Every collection is covered by a waste transfer note, and the partner will check site access before delivery.

Built for heavier waste

Brick, block, concrete, hardcore and mixed demolition waste are dense, and the overall weight of a loaded container must stay legal for the road. The 20-yard RORO strikes a balance: much more capacity than an 8-yard skip, while keeping the load within a manageable weight.

It is still weight-limited, so it should not be filled to the brim with solid concrete or wet soil. The local partner will advise on sensible loading for your material. For very large volumes of soil, muck away with tipper lorries is often more efficient.

Access for a hook-loader lorry

RORO containers are delivered on hook-loader lorries, which pull the container onto the vehicle and slide it off again on site. The lorry needs a wide, firm and level approach, room to line up behind the placement position and clear space with no low cables, branches or canopies overhead.

In practice that means yards, car parks, industrial units and construction compounds rather than residential streets. If you are unsure whether your site works, send us photos or a site plan and the local partner will check before delivery.

Keeping the site moving

On busy projects, 20-yard containers can be exchanged on request or to a schedule, subject to availability. Keeping clean hardcore separate from mixed waste can improve recycling. A waste transfer note covers every load, and special waste such as asbestos must be handled separately under a consignment note. Tell us about your programme and expected volumes so lifts can be planned around key phases of the work. Keep the area around the container clear on collection days so the lorry can reach it without delay.

20-Yard RORO Skip – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

Can I fill a 20-yard RORO with rubble?

It is suitable for heavier waste, but it is weight-limited. A container filled to the top with solid rubble may exceed the legal limit. The local partner will advise how much heavy material can be loaded.

Is a 20-yard RORO available at my Glasgow site?

Availability is subject to confirmation by the local partner serving your postcode. Send us your site address and we will check, along with access for the hook-loader lorry. Photos of the placement area help.

How does it compare to an 8-yard skip?

It holds well over twice as much, so it can mean fewer collections on a large job. It needs much more space and access, however, so standard construction skips remain better for tight sites.

Can it go on the road?

It is rarely practical. RORO containers are usually placed on private land such as site compounds and yards, where the lorry has room to manoeuvre. Tell us about your site and we will check what is possible.
