6-Yard Skip Hire in Glasgow

A versatile builders' skip for soil, rubble, garden, DIY, construction and commercial waste across Glasgow, holding around 50–60 bin bags.

6-Yard Skip Hire in Skip Hire Glasgow

The 6-yard skip is one of the most useful sizes for Glasgow jobs. It holds around 50 to 60 bin bags and takes heavy waste, so it handles soil and rubble from a garden dig, plaster and timber from a DIY project, mixed construction waste from a small extension and commercial waste from a shop or office refit.

It’s big enough to save you a second skip on most medium-sized projects, yet compact enough to fit on a driveway in Bearsden or a parking space outside a Southside terrace. Builders and landscapers often choose it as a standard skip for work that will generate both heavy and bulky waste.

Soil, rubble and garden waste

Garden projects create a surprising amount of heavy waste. Digging out a lawn for a patio, removing an old rockery or lifting slabs in a back garden in Cathcart or Jordanhill can quickly fill a smaller skip. A 6-yard skip takes soil, turf, stones, rubble and green waste such as hedge cuttings and branches.

Heavy loads must stay within the weight limits set by the partner delivering your skip, and nothing should be loaded above the top edge. If you’re shifting a large volume of earth, soil removal by grab lorry may be a more cost-effective option.

DIY, construction and commercial waste

For DIY jobs, a 6-yard skip copes well with a bathroom or small kitchen refit, a stripped-out room or a loft conversion clear-out. On construction work, it’s well suited to small extensions, porches, internal alterations and repointing jobs, taking bricks, blocks, concrete, timber offcuts and packaging.

Businesses use 6-yard skips for shop refits in the Merchant City, small office refurbishments and clear-outs at units on estates such as Hillington or Queenslie. Ordinary commercial waste moves under the Duty of Care with a waste transfer note, which you should keep for at least two years. See builders’ skip hire for trade bookings and exchanges.

Placing a 6-yard skip

If the skip can go on private land – a driveway, yard or customer car park – no permit is needed. On a public road in Glasgow you’ll need a Glasgow City Council skip permit, normally applied for by the skip provider; allow a few working days and keep the area clear for delivery.

Outside the city boundary, councils such as East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and North Lanarkshire handle their own permits. Tell us your postcode and where the skip will sit, and the local partner will advise. When you’re ready, request a quote through our contact page.

6-Yard Skip Hire – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

Can I fill a 6-yard skip with soil?

A 6-yard skip can take soil and rubble, but heavy loads must stay within the partner’s weight limits. In practice that can mean filling it only partly with very dense material. Tell us when booking that you’ll be loading soil so the right advice and vehicle are arranged.

Is a 6-yard skip suitable for commercial waste?

Yes. It’s a practical size for shop and office refits, small warehouse clear-outs and maintenance work. You’ll receive a waste transfer note for ordinary commercial waste. Keep dry recyclables like cardboard separate where you can, in line with Scottish requirements for businesses.

Is a 6-yard or 8-yard skip better for a building job?

For a small extension or single-room renovation, a 6-yard skip is often enough and is easier to place on a tight street. For a full kitchen refit or larger renovation, an 8-yard skip gives extra space and is still suitable for heavy waste.

Can I keep the skip in my back court?

Most Glasgow back courts are reached through a close or pend that a skip lorry can’t get through, so the skip usually has to go on the street with a council permit. If the skip can’t stay out on the road, wait-and-load is worth considering.

How soon can a 6-yard skip be delivered?

On private land, delivery can often be arranged within a day or two, with same-day or next-day possible where locally available. On a public road, allow a few working days for the permit. Call 0333 121 1056 to check availability for your postcode.
