Skip Hire in Glasgow
Domestic, builders' and commercial skips across Glasgow and the surrounding towns, delivered by our network of licensed local waste partners.

Skips Glasgow arranges reliable skip hire throughout the city of Glasgow and surrounding towns. Our range includes 4-yard skips, 6-yard skips, 8-yard skips, 12-yard skips, 14-yard skips and 16-yard skips, along with enclosed and lockable skips, wait-and-load skip hire and waste collection services, and 20-yard RORO skips, 35-yard RORO skips and 40-yard RORO skip containers for larger commercial and construction projects across Glasgow.
Tell us what you’re clearing, where the skip will be placed and how long you expect to need it. We’ll help you select a suitable skip size, discuss any restrictions for heavy or prohibited waste, and check whether a Glasgow council skip hire permit or parking suspension may be required. If permanent skip placement is not practical, wait-and-load skip hire may provide a convenient alternative.

Skips for Homes, Businesses and Trades Across Glasgow
Homeowners clearing a house, loft, garage or garden can arrange domestic skip hire throughout Glasgow, including Shawlands, Pollokshields, Bearsden, Partick, Hillhead, Dennistoun, Cambuslang and Rutherglen. Smaller skips are ideal for decluttering and garden projects, while larger options are available for kitchen and bathroom renovations.
Builders and tradespeople working across Glasgow city centre, the West End, Southside, East End and surrounding areas commonly choose 6-yard skips or 8-yard builders skips for refurbishment, extension and construction projects. Heavy materials such as soil, concrete and rubble must be declared when booking, while plasterboard may need to be kept separate.
Businesses, shopfitters, landlords and facilities teams in areas such as Finnieston, Govan, Tradeston, Hillington, Clydebank and East Kilbride can arrange larger commercial skips, regular skip exchanges, enclosed or lockable skip containers and RORO skips for high-volume waste. Wait-and-load skip hire is also available where space is limited or leaving a skip is impractical.
Collected waste is taken to a permitted facility, where recoverable materials are separated for recycling whenever possible.
Tenement streets, back courts and Glasgow skip permits
Space is the big question across much of Glasgow. Many tenement flats have no driveway, and back courts are usually reached through a close or pend far too narrow for a skip lorry. In those cases, the skip normally has to go on the road, which needs a Glasgow City Council skip permit, usually applied for by the skip provider. Allow a few working days, and bear in mind that skips on the road must be lit and marked.
Neighbouring councils such as Renfrewshire, East Dunbartonshire and South Lanarkshire run their own schemes. A skip on a driveway or private car park needs no permit. Read more about skip permits in Glasgow, or consider wait-and-load skip hire where a skip can’t stay on the street.
What goes in a skip, and what types of waste has to stay out?
General household and building waste is fine: timber, rubble, soil, metal, packaging, old furniture without upholstery and garden waste. Some items must be kept out because they need separate handling under Scottish rules, including asbestos, tyres, gas bottles, batteries, paint and chemicals, fridges and other electricals, and upholstered sofas or armchairs, which may contain persistent organic pollutants.
Heavy waste such as soil and hardcore is normally limited to skips of 8 yards or smaller, or for large volumes of rubble or soil, 20-yard RORO skips are best, because a larger chain lift skip filled with rubble would be too heavy to lift safely. If you’re unsure about something, check our guide to what can go in a skip before you start loading.

How long can I keep a skip?
The standard Skip Hire period is 14 days, but longer skip hires or exchanges can usually be arranged. A skip on the road is limited to the dates on its permit, so tell us how long you need it when you book.
Do I need to be in when the skip arrives?
Not usually, as long as the driver can see where the skip should go and the space is clear. On busy tenement streets it helps to keep the spot free of parked cars on the day. If access is tight or there are overhead cables or low trees, let us know so the partner can plan the right vehicle.
What happens to the waste after collection?
Your skip goes to a licensed waste facility, where loads are sorted, and materials such as rubble, metal, timber and cardboard are recovered wherever possible. Scotland restricts biodegradable waste from going to landfill, so sorting and recycling are a standard part of the process.
