Whether you are pouring a garage base in Bishopbriggs, footings for an extension in the Southside or a slab on a commercial site by the Clyde, Skips Glasgow can arrange concrete delivery through our network of licensed local partners. You tell us what you are pouring and roughly how much, and we match you with a supplier that serves your postcode.

There are two main ways to get concrete to a Glasgow site. Ready-mix is batched at a plant to a set specification and arrives in a drum mixer, ready to discharge. Volumetric concrete is mixed fresh on site from a truck that carries the raw materials separately, so you only pay for what you actually use.

Not sure which suits your job? Give us a call on 0333 121 1056 or send the details through the quote form and we will help you weigh up volume, access and timing before anything is booked.

Ready-mix or volumetric – which do you need?

Both methods produce quality concrete; the right choice depends on the job. Ready-mix concrete suits pours where you know the volume and mix in advance – a large slab, foundations to an engineer’s specification, or a continuous pour where several trucks arrive in sequence.

Volumetric concrete is often a better fit when quantities are uncertain, when you need different mixes for different parts of the job, or when a pour is spread across a few locations on the same site. Because it is mixed as it is discharged, there is less risk of paying for concrete you do not use.

  • Known volume, one mix, bigger pour: usually ready-mix
  • Uncertain volume or several small pours: usually volumetric

Getting concrete onto tight Glasgow sites

Access is often the deciding factor in Glasgow. Back courts behind tenements, terraced streets in Dennistoun or Partick, and driveways with low walls or overhead cables can all make it hard for a mixer to get close to the pour. Wheelbarrowing a large volume through a close is slow and tiring, and concrete does not wait.

That is where concrete pump hire comes in. A pump can carry concrete from the roadside to the back of a property or over a building, letting the mixer stay on the street. If the mixer or pump will sit on a public road, we will talk you through whether any council arrangements are needed for your location.

What to have ready before you book

A little preparation keeps the pour running smoothly and avoids standing-time charges. Before you call, try to have:

  • The approximate volume in cubic metres (length × width × depth)
  • The mix or strength required, if specified by an engineer or building control
  • Your site address and postcode, plus any access restrictions
  • Whether you need a pump, and how far the concrete has to travel
  • Your preferred date and a back-up date

Formwork, reinforcement and a team ready to place and finish should all be in place before the truck arrives.

Ideal for

  • House foundations
  • Extension footings
  • Garage bases
  • Driveways and paths
  • Commercial slabs
  • Fence post and shed bases

Concrete Delivery – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

How much concrete do I need?

Multiply length by width by depth in metres to get cubic metres, then add a small allowance for uneven ground. If you are unsure, a volumetric supply can reduce the risk because you only pay for what is mixed. We are happy to sense-check your figures when you call.

Can you deliver concrete anywhere in Glasgow?

We arrange concrete delivery across Glasgow and surrounding areas through local suppliers. Availability, minimum loads and lead times vary by postcode and supplier, so we will confirm what is possible for your site when you enquire.

Do I need a pump?

If the mixer cannot get within a short distance of the pour, a pump usually saves time and labour. Rear gardens behind tenements, upper floors and sites with restricted access often benefit. Our pump hire page explains the options.

Can I get next-day concrete?

Short-notice deliveries are sometimes possible, subject to availability with local suppliers. Booking a few days ahead gives you the best chance of your preferred slot, especially in busy building months.

Can you also take away waste from the job?

Yes. We can arrange skips, muck away and grab hire for excavated soil and rubble, so groundworks and the pour can be organised with one call.
