Waste Collections in Glasgow
When a skip isn’t the right fit, a licensed partner crew can come out, load your waste and take it away – homes, businesses and sites across Glasgow.
- Licensed local partners across Skip Hire Glasgow
- Waste paperwork provided with every job
- Free, no-obligation quotes
Not every job suits a skip. A third-floor tenement flat with no space on the street, a shop that needs a one-off clear-out before a refit, or a site with a pile of mixed waste and no room for a container – these are the jobs a loaded waste collection is made for.
Skips Glasgow arranges collections across Glasgow and the surrounding towns through Waste Cloud’s network of licensed local partners. A crew arrives with a suitably sized vehicle, does the carrying and loading, and takes the waste to a licensed facility where as much as possible is sorted for recycling. You only pay for the waste that is actually removed, and because nothing sits on the road, there is no council skip permit to arrange.

Waste collection services
Collection or skip – which suits your job?
A skip works best when you are filling it yourself over several days and have somewhere to put it. A collection is usually the better choice when:
- there is no driveway and a road permit would be awkward, such as in West End or Southside tenement streets
- the waste is up a stair, in a loft or at the back of a close and you want someone else to carry it
- you have a single load to shift and do not want a container sitting outside
- the waste includes items that cannot go in a skip and need separate handling
If you have a steady stream of waste and plenty of space, skip hire may still work out better – we can advise either way.
Collections for homes, businesses and sites
For households, the most common requests are garden clear-ups, bulky furniture and full property clearances after a move or bereavement. Businesses tend to need one-off clear-outs of stock, shopfittings or office furniture, while trades and site managers use collections to remove builders’ waste between phases without tying up space with a skip.
Regular, scheduled business collections are a different service – if you need bins emptied every week, see trade waste collection instead. Whatever the job, the partner carrying your waste is a SEPA-registered carrier and takes it to an authorised site.
Duty of care and paperwork
Under Scotland’s Duty of Care, anyone producing business waste must make sure it goes to an authorised carrier and is properly described. For commercial and construction collections, the licensed partner provides a waste transfer note, which you should keep for at least two years.
Householders benefit too: using a registered carrier protects you if waste is later dumped, because the responsibility for fly-tipped household rubbish can be traced back to the person who handed it over. Anything classed as special waste in Scotland, such as asbestos or chemicals, is handled separately with the correct consignment documentation.

Waste Collections – your questions answered
Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.
Do I need a council permit for a waste collection in Glasgow?
No. A permit is only required when a skip is placed on a public road. With a collection, the vehicle parks up, the crew loads it and leaves, so there is nothing left on the street. In controlled parking zones it helps to let us know about loading restrictions in advance.
Will the crew carry waste down from an upstairs flat?
Yes, carrying and loading is part of the service. Let us know the floor, whether there is a lift and roughly how much there is, so the partner can send enough people and allow enough time for the stairs.
How is the price of a collection worked out?
Collections are normally priced on the volume and type of waste, plus access – how far it has to be carried and whether stairs are involved. Photos or a short description help the partner give an accurate quote. Send details through the quote form or call 0333 121 1056.
Which areas around Glasgow do you cover?
Collections are available across the city and surrounding towns, including Paisley, Clydebank, East Kilbride, Hamilton, Rutherglen and Cumbernauld, through our licensed local partners. Availability can vary by postcode. See areas we cover for more.
Where does the waste go?
Your waste goes to a licensed transfer or recycling facility, where it is sorted so that wood, metal, card, rubble and other materials can be recovered. Only what cannot be recycled goes on for disposal.
