Domestic Skip Hire in Glasgow
Home skips for clear-outs, refits and garden projects across Glasgow, delivered by licensed local waste partners.

Whether you are clearing a loft in Bearsden, gutting a kitchen in a Southside tenement or tidying a garden in Bishopbriggs, a domestic skip is usually the simplest way to get rid of a lot of household waste in one go. Skips Glasgow arranges home skip hire across the city and surrounding towns.
Providing skip hire throughout Glasgow through our established network of licensed local waste partners, we match your job to a suitable skip size, check where it can go and arrange delivery and collection with the local partner serving your postcode. Each collection comes with a waste transfer note, so you know your rubbish is going to a licensed facility.
Not sure what size you need? Our skip sizes guide explains the options, or request a quote and we will talk it through with you. You can also call 0333 121 1056.
Choosing a skip for your home
Most household jobs in Glasgow fit a 4, 6 or 8-yard skip. A 4-yard skip suits a small bathroom refit or garden tidy, while a 6-yard skip is a popular all-rounder for room clear-outs and kitchen replacements. For bigger renovations, an 8-yard builders’ skip gives more room without becoming too heavy to lift.
If your waste is mostly soil, rubble or broken slabs, keep to 8 yards or smaller – heavy material fills a skip by weight long before it reaches the top. Bulky but light items, such as packaging and old timber, can go in larger skips where space allows.
Tenements, closes and on-street placement
Many Glasgow homes have no driveway, so the skip often has to sit on the street. In the West End, Southside and city centre, roads can be narrow and covered by controlled parking zones, which affects where a skip can safely go.
A skip on a public road needs a council permit, which the local partner normally applies for on your behalf. Allow a few working days for this. If you have a driveway or private space, no permit is needed. For flats with a shared back court, check with neighbours or the factor before booking. Read more on our skip permits page.
Loading your skip responsibly
Load flat, heavy items first and fill gaps with smaller waste so nothing sticks out above the rim. Overfilled skips cannot be lifted safely and may be left until they are levelled.
Some household items cannot go in a general skip, including sofas and armchairs, fridges, TVs, paint and gas bottles. These need separate handling, which we can usually arrange alongside your skip. You will receive a waste transfer note for the collection – keep it for your records. If you are unsure about an item, ask before it goes in.

Domestic Skip Hire – your questions answered
Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.
Do I need a permit for a skip outside my Glasgow flat?
Yes, if the skip will sit on a public road or pavement. A Glasgow City Council permit is required and the local partner normally applies for it. If you live in a neighbouring council area, that council’s own permit process applies. Skips on private land do not need one.
What size skip do I need for a house clear-out?
For one or two rooms, a 6-yard skip is often enough. A full house clear-out may need an 8-yard skip or larger, depending on how much bulky furniture there is. Tell us what you are clearing and we will suggest a size.
Can I put an old sofa in my skip?
No. Upholstered seating such as sofas, armchairs and padded chairs may contain persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and must be collected separately. We can usually arrange this alongside your skip – just mention it when you request a quote.
How long can I keep a domestic skip?
The hire period is agreed when you book and depends on the local partner and any permit in place. If you need longer, contact us before the end of the hire and we will check whether an extension is possible.
Can the skip go in my back court?
Sometimes, but access is the deciding factor. Skip lorries need a clear route and space to lower the skip, and many Glasgow back courts are reached through narrow lanes or closes. Send us details or photos and the local partner will confirm what is possible.
