RORO Skip Hire in Glasgow

Roll-on roll-off containers for large volumes of waste on Glasgow sites, delivered by hook-loader lorries from licensed local partners.

RORO Skip Hire in Skip Hire Glasgow

When a standard skip is not big enough, a roll-on roll-off (RORO) container takes far more waste per lift. RORO skips are long, open containers delivered and collected by hook-loader lorries, which pull the container on and off the back of the vehicle.

Skips Glasgow arranges RORO hire across Glasgow and the surrounding areas through licensed local partners, for construction sites, factories, warehouses, retail strip-outs and large clearances. Sizes typically range from 20 to 40 yards; the sizes available for your site are subject to confirmation by the local partner. Because of their size, RORO containers are normally placed on private land such as yards, compounds and car parks, where the lorry has room to manoeuvre.

Choosing a RORO size

The smaller 20-yard RORO is suited to heavier construction and demolition waste, within its weight limit. The larger 30, 35 and 40-yard containers are designed for light, bulky waste – packaging, timber, shop and office strip-outs, and clearances – where volume rather than weight is the issue.

Loading heavy material into a large RORO quickly makes it overweight for the road, so match the container to the waste. We will help you choose, and the local partner will confirm which sizes they can supply.

Access and site requirements

RORO containers need much more room than a standard skip. The hook-loader lorry must be able to reach the placement position, line up behind it and have clear space to slide the container on and off. Ground should be wide, firm and level, free from overhead cables and low structures.

That makes RORO hire best suited to yards, car parks, industrial estates and construction compounds rather than residential streets. Sites at places like Hillington, Queenslie or along the Clyde often have the space required.

Covered and segregated options

Where waste needs to stay dry or secure, an enclosed RORO may be available. On busy sites, separate containers for timber, metal or cardboard can improve recycling and help meet Scottish segregation requirements for businesses. A waste transfer note covers every collection. Exchanges can be booked on request or to a schedule, subject to availability, so containers are swapped before they overflow. If you are planning a long project, tell us your expected volumes and the partner can plan lifts around your programme.

RORO Skip Hire – your questions answered

What is a RORO skip?

A roll-on roll-off skip is a large open container that a hook-loader lorry pulls onto its back. It holds much more than a standard skip, making it suitable for high-volume waste on commercial and construction sites.

Can a RORO go on a Glasgow street?

It is rarely practical. RORO containers are large and need space for the lorry to manoeuvre. They are usually placed on private land such as yards, car parks or site compounds. Ask us if you are unsure.

Which RORO sizes are available in Glasgow?

RORO containers typically come in 20, 30, 35 and 40-yard sizes, but availability depends on the local partner serving your site. We will confirm which sizes can be supplied when you request a quote.

Can I put rubble in a 40-yard RORO?

No. Large RORO containers are for light, bulky waste. Heavy waste such as rubble or soil should go in a 20-yard RORO within its weight limit, or in standard skips of 8 yards or smaller.

Can I get regular RORO exchanges?

Yes, subject to availability. Exchanges can be booked on request or scheduled to match your site programme. Tell us your expected volumes and programme, and the local partner will plan lifts so containers are swapped before they overflow.
