IT disposal is rarely just a pile of desktops. When a Glasgow business relocates, consolidates floors or closes a site, the IT team is left with switches and firewalls, Wi-Fi access points, multifunction printers, desk phones, meeting-room screens, projectors and cabinets full of spares. Skips Glasgow arranges collection of the whole lot through our licensed local partners, timed to suit your project.

The service is primarily for commercial quantities and works best when it’s planned in alongside a migration or move, rather than left to the last day of a lease. Equipment containing batteries – UPS units, laptops, handsets and similar – must be declared when requesting a quote.

Send us an outline of what’s going, where it is and when it will be ready, using the quote form on this page or our contact page.

Planning disposal around an office move

Office moves in Glasgow often involve leaving older city centre buildings for newer space – along the Clyde waterfront, for example – and the old IT estate rarely comes too. The cleanest approach is to agree a collection date after your migration is signed off, so nothing is removed while it might still be needed.

Tell us the floor, lift access, loading arrangements and any building rules on out-of-hours working. Where a partner can work early or late, that’s noted at quote stage, subject to availability. If desks, chairs and general waste are going too, our office clearance service can be quoted at the same time.

Keeping an audit trail

For many organisations, the paperwork matters as much as the collection. Every load moves with a waste transfer note, or a consignment note where items are special waste, and you should keep these for at least two years.

If you can supply an asset list – even a simple spreadsheet of device types and serial numbers – it makes reconciliation much easier at both ends. For hard drives, phones and other data-bearing equipment, partners can provide certificates of destruction on request; see secure data destruction for more detail.

Beyond the desk: printers, phones and AV

The less obvious kit is often what gets left behind. A typical IT disposal can include:

  • Multifunction printers, copiers and plotters
  • Desk phones, handsets and conference units
  • Switches, routers, firewalls and access points
  • Meeting-room displays, projectors and video-conferencing kit
  • UPS units and battery-backed devices (declared)

If any of these devices store data – many modern printers and copiers have internal drives – decide how that will be handled before collection. Larger rack-mounted equipment is covered on our server recycling page.

IT Equipment Disposal – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

Do we need to provide an asset list?

It isn’t essential, but it helps a great deal. A list of device types and quantities lets the partner plan the vehicle and labour, and serial numbers make it easier to reconcile what was collected against your records.

Can collections happen outside office hours?

Some partners can work early mornings, evenings or weekends, which is useful in busy city centre buildings with restricted loading times. This is subject to availability, so mention it when you request your quote.

What about devices that hold data?

Phones, printers with internal storage, laptops and servers can all hold data. You can deal with this in-house, or the partner can handle data-bearing equipment and provide certificates of destruction on request. See secure data destruction.

Why do UPS units and handsets need to be declared?

They contain batteries – often sealed lead-acid in UPS units and lithium-ion in handsets and laptops. Some battery types are special waste in Scotland, and all need safe packing. Declaring them means the right vehicle, packaging and paperwork are in place.

Can you take everything from a closing office in one go?

Often, yes. Electrical equipment can be collected alongside furniture and general waste through an office clearance, with the WEEE kept separate and documented properly. Contact us with the scope and dates.
