Sand Delivery in Glasgow

Building sand, sharp sand and other grades delivered to Glasgow homes and sites by tipper or bulk bag, subject to confirmation for your postcode.

Sand Delivery in Skip Hire Glasgow

Sand is one of the most-used materials on any building job, but the type matters. Soft building sand makes smooth mortar for brick and blockwork, while coarser sharp sand gives strength to concrete, screeds and paving beds.

Skips Glasgow arranges sand delivery across Glasgow and surrounding areas through licensed local partners. Whether you are repointing a sandstone tenement in Pollokshields, laying a block-paved drive in Clarkston or mixing concrete for a garden room base, we can check supply for your postcode.

Sand is delivered loose by tipper or in bulk bags where available. Bags are often handier for domestic jobs, keeping the sand clean and tidy until you need it. For other materials see our aggregate delivery page. Supply is subject to confirmation for your postcode.

Which sand do I need?

  • Building sand – fine and soft, used for bricklaying and blockwork mortar
  • Sharp sand – coarser and gritty, used for concrete, floor screeds and as a bedding layer under block paving and flags
  • Grit sand – coarser still, sometimes used for drainage or specialist mixes

Product names and grades vary between suppliers. If your builder or a specification calls for a particular sand, include the details with your enquiry so the partner can match it. Using the wrong sand can lead to weak mortar or a poor finish.

Storing sand on site

Glasgow weather is not kind to an uncovered sand pile. Rain washes it away and makes it heavy, while wind can blow finer sand around. Cover loose deliveries with a tarpaulin and keep them off drains and gullies.

Bulk bags are a good option where space is limited or you want to keep different sands separate. Try to have them placed close to where you will use them, on firm, level ground. Keeping sand clean also avoids contaminating your mixes with soil or debris.

Combine with your other materials

Sand is often needed alongside sub-base and cement for paving and slab jobs. Ordering Type 1 aggregate at the same time can save on delivery planning. For larger pours, consider whether ready-mix concrete would save time compared with mixing by hand.

Send your requirements through the quote form and we will confirm what can be supplied to your postcode. If you are mixing concrete by hand, sharp sand and gravel are often ordered together. For bigger jobs it is worth comparing the cost and effort of mixing on site with a concrete delivery.

Sand Delivery – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

What is the difference between building sand and sharp sand?

Building sand is fine and soft for mortar. Sharp sand is coarser and stronger, used in concrete, screeds and under paving. Using the wrong one can weaken the finished work.

Can sand be delivered in bags?

Where available, yes. Bulk bags are convenient for domestic and small jobs. Larger quantities are usually delivered loose by tipper. Bags also help keep sand clean and contained on a small driveway.

How much sand do I need for my patio?

It depends on the area and the depth of the bedding layer. Send the dimensions and the partner can estimate a sensible quantity. Allow a little extra for wastage and levelling.

Do you deliver sand to areas outside Glasgow?

We cover surrounding areas such as Renfrew, Bishopbriggs, Hamilton and Coatbridge through local partners, subject to confirmation for your postcode. Give us your postcode and we will check supply with partners near you.
