Volumetric Concrete in Glasgow
Concrete mixed fresh on your Glasgow site by a volumetric truck, so you pay only for the volume actually poured.
- Licensed local partners across Skip Hire Glasgow
- Waste paperwork provided with every job
- Free, no-obligation quotes
A volumetric concrete truck carries sand, aggregate, cement and water in separate compartments and mixes them on site as the concrete is discharged. Rather than ordering a fixed load in advance, you pour until the job is done and pay for the volume actually produced.
Skips Glasgow arranges volumetric concrete across Glasgow and the surrounding towns through our network of local partners. It is a popular choice with builders, landscapers and homeowners when the final quantity is hard to judge – for example, uneven ground under a driveway in Newton Mearns or footings that may need to go deeper once dug out.

How volumetric mixing works
The volumetric truck is effectively a mobile batching plant. The operator calibrates the materials and adjusts the mix on site, then produces concrete continuously as it is needed. When you have enough, mixing stops and the remaining raw materials stay on the truck.
Because the concrete is fresh at the point of discharge, there is more flexibility on timing. If your team needs a short pause between sections, the mixer can wait rather than leaving a drum of concrete stiffening. On many visits the operator can also change the mix – for instance, a stronger mix for a base and a different one for a path.
When volumetric makes sense
Volumetric concrete earns its keep where there is uncertainty or variety. Typical Glasgow jobs include:
- Driveways and patios where ground levels vary
- Footings that may need deepening once excavated
- Several small pours across one site, such as post bases and a shed slab
- Jobs where you want to avoid paying for surplus concrete
For a very large, single-specification pour, ready-mix may be more efficient. If the truck cannot get close to the pour, add a line pump to carry concrete through to the back of the property.
Ideal for
- Driveways and patios
- Extension footings
- Shed and garage bases
- Fence post bases
- Multi-location pours
- Landscaping projects
Volumetric Concrete – your questions answered
Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.
Is volumetric concrete as strong as ready-mix?
A properly calibrated volumetric mixer produces concrete to the mix required for the job. If you need a specific strength for structural work, state it when booking so the supplier can confirm they can meet the specification.
Do I really only pay for what I use?
That is the principle of volumetric supply – charges are based on the volume mixed. Suppliers may also have a minimum charge or call-out element, so ask for the full pricing basis when you get your quote.
Can a volumetric truck fit down my street?
Volumetric trucks are large vehicles, similar in size to other concrete lorries. Tight streets in areas like the West End or parked-up residential roads can be a challenge, so describe your access when you enquire and we will check with the local partner.
Can I change the mix during the pour?
On many volumetric trucks the operator can adjust the mix on site. Let us know in advance if you need more than one mix so the supplier brings suitable materials.
