Waste Oil Disposal in Glasgow

Collection of used engine, gear and hydraulic oils and oily wastes from garages, fleets, plant operators and industrial sites across Glasgow.

Oil Disposal in Skip Hire Glasgow

Used mineral oils are among the most common special wastes produced by Glasgow businesses. Garages, MOT centres, haulage yards, plant hire depots and factories all generate engine oil, gear oil, hydraulic fluid and oily rags or filters that cannot go in general waste.

Waste oil is special waste in Scotland. It must be stored securely, kept separate from other liquids and collected by a licensed carrier, with a consignment note provided by the partner. Skips Glasgow arranges these collections across the city and surrounding areas through our network of licensed local partners.

Please share safety data sheets (SDS) where available, photographs, approximate quantities, packaging details and the collection address via the quote form on this page. For drums and IBCs, tell us how many and roughly how full they are.

Oils and oily wastes

Our partners can arrange collection of used engine oil, gearbox oil, hydraulic oil, compressor oil and some cutting fluids, along with associated waste such as used oil filters, contaminated absorbent granules and oily rags.

Keep different waste streams separate where you can. Oil mixed with water, fuel, coolant or solvents may need different treatment, so let us know if contamination is likely. Spent fuels are covered on our fuel disposal page. Where waste oil is collected in bulk, it is often sent for reprocessing or recovery rather than simply destroyed.

Storing waste oil safely

Waste oil should be kept in sound, sealed containers, ideally within a bund or drip tray, and away from drains. Leaks from yards can easily reach surface water drains and the River Clyde catchment, so good storage protects you and the environment.

  • Use suitable drums or IBCs with secure lids
  • Label containers clearly as waste oil
  • Keep containers off bare ground
  • Have spill kits close to storage areas

If containers are damaged, overfilled or leaking, mention this when you get in touch so the partner can bring suitable equipment.

Regular or one-off collections

Some businesses need a single uplift after a clear-out; others prefer regular collections as part of their wider commercial waste arrangements. Our partners serve workshops and yards across Glasgow, including industrial areas around Hillington, Queenslie and Cambuslang, subject to availability. Request a quote through the form or contact us.

For regular collections, frequency is usually based on how quickly your storage fills. Our partners can suggest a schedule that keeps containers from overfilling, and each uplift comes with its own consignment note for your records.

Oil Disposal – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

Is waste engine oil special waste in Scotland?

Yes. Used mineral oils such as engine, gear and hydraulic oil are special waste and must be collected by a licensed carrier with a consignment note. The partner provides this paperwork when they collect.

Can you collect used cooking oil?

Used cooking oil from kitchens is handled differently from mineral oil and is usually collected for recovery. Mention it in your enquiry and we will check what our partners can offer, alongside any food waste collection you need.

How much oil do I need for a collection?

There is no fixed minimum, but pricing depends on volume, container type and location. Tell us how many drums, IBCs or litres you have, with photos, and we will arrange a quote.

Do you collect oil filters and oily rags?

Yes, our partners can usually collect contaminated filters, rags and absorbents alongside waste oil. Keep them in separate labelled containers, ideally drained filters in a sealed drum, and include them in your quote request.
