40-Yard RORO Skip Hire in Glasgow

The largest RORO container, for very high volumes of light, bulky waste on Glasgow sites.

40-Yard RORO Skip in Skip Hire Glasgow

The 40-yard roll-on roll-off container is the largest common RORO size, built for very high volumes of light, bulky waste. It is used for major strip-outs, large clearances, distribution centres and construction sites producing large amounts of packaging.

Skips Glasgow arranges 40-yard RORO hire through licensed local partners in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. Availability is subject to confirmation for your site, and the container needs generous space and access for the hook-loader lorry. Because it is so large, it is normally placed on private land such as yards and site compounds. Every collection comes with a waste transfer note.

Maximum volume for light waste

A 40-yard container makes sense when waste is light but plentiful – polystyrene and packaging from deliveries, timber from fit-outs, old furniture and fixtures from a building-wide clearance. Fewer collections can mean less disruption on a busy site.

Because of its size, it must only be used for light material. Even a modest amount of rubble or soil can make it too heavy to lift. Heavy waste should go in a 20-yard RORO within its weight limit, or standard skips.

Access for a hook-loader lorry

RORO containers are delivered on hook-loader lorries, which pull the container onto the vehicle and slide it off again on site. The lorry needs a wide, firm and level approach, room to line up behind the placement position and clear space with no low cables, branches or canopies overhead.

In practice that means yards, car parks, industrial units and construction compounds rather than residential streets. If you are unsure whether your site works, send us photos or a site plan and the local partner will check before delivery.

Planning a large clear-out

For big projects, plan where the container will sit before delivery and keep the route clear on collection days. Exchanges can be arranged as needed, subject to availability. Items such as electricals and upholstered seating need separate handling – see site clearance for a fuller service. A waste transfer note covers each load, and you should keep it for at least two years. Where volumes justify it, separate containers for cardboard or timber can improve recycling rates. Tell us your expected volumes so lifts can be planned.

40-Yard RORO Skip – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

What is a 40-yard RORO used for?

Very large volumes of light, bulky waste, such as packaging, timber and strip-out waste. It is not suitable for heavy material like rubble, soil or concrete. Heavy waste belongs in a 20-yard RORO.

Can a 40-yard RORO be delivered to my Glasgow site?

Availability is subject to confirmation by the local partner, and the site must have wide, firm, level access with room for the hook-loader lorry. We will check both before booking.

Is a 40-yard container better than several smaller skips?

For light waste and sites with space, it can mean fewer lifts and less disruption. For heavy waste or tight sites, smaller containers or standard skips are the better choice.

Do I get paperwork?

Yes. A waste transfer note is provided for every collection. Keep it for at least two years under your Duty of Care. The note records what the waste is and who carried it.
