Most Glasgow businesses don’t produce one neat type of electrical waste. A Finnieston restaurant replaces a combi oven and a glass washer; a Merchant City office swaps out its kettles, microwaves and meeting-room screens; a retail unit in the St Enoch area clears old tills, card terminals and display lighting. Our commercial WEEE collection gathers that mix in a single visit, carried out by one of our licensed local partners.

The service is primarily for commercial quantities – a storeroom’s worth of kit, a few cages or pallets, or the electrical side of a refit – rather than the odd single item. The partner sorts and documents the load so it reaches the right treatment facility.

Equipment containing batteries must be declared when you request a quote, along with any fridges, tubes or screens that may be special waste. Fill in the quote form on this page or get in touch and we’ll arrange the rest.

Mixed loads, handled properly

Different types of electrical waste go through different treatment processes, so a mixed load can’t just be thrown in the back of a van. Cooling equipment, lamps and screens are kept apart from general IT and small appliances, and battery-powered items are separated so they can be handled safely.

You can make the collection quicker by grouping like with like before the crew arrives – small appliances in one area, screens in another, any fridges standing upright and empty. A rough list with quantities helps the partner bring the right vehicle and avoids a wasted trip.

One-off clear-outs or regular collections

Plenty of WEEE collections are one-offs: a refurbishment, the end of a lease, an office move or a change of operator at a bar or café. If the job also involves furniture and general waste, our office clearance service can be quoted alongside it.

Other businesses generate electrical waste steadily – multi-site retailers, managed office buildings, letting agents dealing with appliance swaps across their flats, or facilities companies looking after several sites. For them, a partner can usually set up repeat collections on an agreed schedule, subject to availability. It sits neatly with wider waste management for businesses.

Access and logistics around Glasgow

Where the equipment is matters as much as what it is. City centre premises often mean timed loading restrictions, pedestrianised frontages and controlled parking zones, so a rear lane or service entrance makes life easier. Upper-floor offices in older sandstone buildings may have tight stairwells or small lifts.

On industrial estates such as Hillington, Queenslie or Cambuslang Investment Park, palletised loads and a forklift on site can speed things up considerably. Tell us about access, floor level and whether a tail-lift vehicle is needed when you request your quote.

Commercial WEEE Collection – your questions answered

Can’t see your question? Call 0333 121 1056 or send us a message.

Is there a minimum quantity for a commercial WEEE collection?

We don’t publish a fixed minimum, but the service is designed for commercial quantities rather than single items. Describe what you have on the quote form and we’ll tell you whether a collection makes sense or whether another route would suit you better.

Can fridges and fluorescent tubes go in the same collection?

Often, yes, but they need to be declared separately because they’re special waste in Scotland and travel with a consignment note. The partner keeps them apart from the rest of the load. For larger quantities, see fridge recycling and fluorescent tube recycling.

Should we take equipment apart before collection?

No. Leave items intact. Stripping cables, removing compressors from fridges or breaking up equipment can release harmful substances and can make items harder to treat. The one exception is data – you may want to remove or arrange destruction of hard drives first.

Can you collect from several of our Glasgow sites?

Usually, yes. Give us the addresses and a rough idea of the equipment at each, and we’ll look at whether one partner can cover them on a single run or whether separate visits make more sense, subject to availability.

Why do battery-powered items need to be declared?

Lithium batteries in scanners, tools, phones and similar devices can be a fire risk if crushed or damaged in transit. Declaring them at quote stage lets the partner pack and carry them safely and keeps your collection on schedule.
